Hello,
I'm from South Dakota and I am just getting started with video astronomy and electronic assisted astronomy (EAA). I have owned a Celestron 8" SCT since 1978 that I bought while I was living in Honolulu. Over the years since I have had intermittent activity with the C8, primarily observing and some meager attempts at piggy-back photography. I could never quite put together the energy required for astrophotography (AP), which had been mostly a "black art" for the amateur until the past 10-15 years.
However, it's a new age and I am retired. So I'm putting together a new Celestron CGX mounted 11" RASA and a SkyShield POD for a more serious attempt at AP. I will be starting with my Canon 80D but if all goes well will graduate to Starlight Express UltraStar in a few months. I hope to be able to post some images in the next few months. It's winter here, the astrograph is in the mail, and I have yet to construct the POD.
Yesterday, in a post on Cloudy Nights, I ran into HiloDon who appears to have been a leading light in the budding arena of EAA. He gave me some good insights into the relative virtues of the SX UltraStar and the Atik Infinity. That was very fortuitous for me. He also led me to NightSkiesNetwork.com where he is apparently a Monday night contributor.
Glad to be here. I look forward to what's going on with you all.

Welcome Rod. Yes, the Ultrastar is apparently a good camera for Video Astronomy. It allows a user to do very short exposures to capture DSO's. The results I have seen posted around the internet are good. HiloDon has been a leading light in EAA? News to me LOL! A heavy contributor, yes. Replies are a bit slow in this forum as many people join but never come back. Anyway, welcome, and I hope you get the answers you require

Rod,
Welcome! I used to live in SD as well. I only wish I was aware of how dark it was and how much I wish I had a telescope then. We look forward to seeing you on the site and broadcasts.
